On Thursday, Sweden began the Davis Cup adventure in the world final in Madrid. Canada was defeated 3-0 and on Saturday, Kazakhstan awaits in the final group stage match.
The format – that’s how it works
Since 2019, the Davis Cup Finals are played in a new World Cup format. This year, another novelty awaits as group games and quarter-finals are played in three different European cities – Madrid, Innsbruck and Turin. Sweden’s matches in Group B are played in Madrid, where semi-finals and finals are also decided.
18 nations are participating. These are divided into six groups with three countries in each. In the group stage, everyone meets each other and the six group winners, together with the two best runners-up, advance to the quarterfinals.
Reigning champion (2019) is Spain.
