Although the iPhone is a great phone, it is not without its flaws. And some updates bring more problems than solutions. Have you installed iOS 17.4 on your phone? You may very well be seeing WhatsApp images being duplicated on your phone. Don’t worry, you are not alone and Apple is surely already working on a solution.
But what is happening? Apparently, the images you save from WhatsApp in the iPhone gallery are duplicated. And there is no reason for it. A very annoying error that is causing a stir on X (Twitter), where more and more users are reporting problems of this type. You just have to take a walk through the social network to see that it is a general problem.
How to fix duplicate WhatsApp photos issue on iPhone
And everything indicates that the latest update of the Cupertino-based firm’s operating system is to blame. So, if you were one of the first to install iOS 17.4 and use WhatsApp regularly, you are probably suffering from this problem. It’s true that there will be a solution soon, but what can you do in the meantime?
Who here who has an iPhone can clarify a question for me, is it just mine or are all the images sent to us on WhatsApp now saved double?🥲

As we have told you, keep in mind that Apple most certainly already knows about this problem, so its development team is already working on an update that will be available sooner rather than later. At the moment, it seems that the only solution is to disable automatic saving of photos. They won’t be saved to the gallery, but they won’t be duplicated either. And once Apple or WhatsApp release the corresponding update that solves this problem, although everything indicates that it is an iOS bug so it is Apple’s fault, you will be able to activate the automatic saving of photos in the gallery again.
To do this, you just have to follow these steps that we indicate below:
- Open WhatsApp on your iPhone.
- In the lower right corner of the screen, you will find the “Settings” icon. Touch it.
- In the settings menu, find and select the “Chats” option.
- Within “Chats,” you will see an option that says “Save to Photos” or “Save media files to Photos.” If this option is on (green), tap it to turn it off. By doing so, you will prevent new images and videos received on WhatsApp from being automatically saved to your iPhone gallery.
Once you follow these steps, you will only have to wait for an iOS 17.4 update that solves this problem to reactivate the automatic saving of WhatsApp images in your iPhone gallery.
