Meta-owned photo sharing platform, Instagram, recently unveiled new features to better protect users and content creators from unwanted and offensive message requests and comments. These features include updating Hidden wordsimproved locking options and more.
What is the word search function on Instagram
The social networking site introduced the word search feature, which allows users to do this automatically filtered malicious content of their comments and message requests. Instagram says that users who turn on hidden words for comments notice 40% fewer potentially offensive comments overall.

Hidden words are a list of words, phrases, and emojis that hide words if they may seem inappropriate, offensive or disrespectful. By using this feature, you will not encounter any content, including comments on your posts or messages related to the words or phrases you have hidden. Here’s how you can use this feature to get rid of offensive words and phrases from your Instagram account:
Open the Instagram application on your Android or iOS device.
Go to Your profile by tapping on your profile picture, available at the bottom right.
Click the three-line horizontal menu button available at the top right.
Go to Settings language.
Select the Privacy option.
Click the Hidden words option.
Under the Offensive words and phrases tab, turn on the switch for Hide comments, Advanced filtering of commentset Hide message requests options.
However, hidden comments are not visible to anyone, but are still counted in the total number of comments.
Words, phrases, numbers, and emoticons that you specifically don’t want to appear in comments or message requests can be added to your list of custom words and phrases. You can edit this list at any time and these words and phrases will be hidden from your comments, message requests, or both. Here’s how to add custom words to the list:
Open the Instagram application on your phone.
Press on your profile picture bottom right.
Click the three-line horizontal menu available at the top right of the screen.
Go to Settings language.
Click the Privacy option and go to Hidden words language.
Under the Custom words and phrases tab, press the tab Manage custom words and phrases button.
Enter specific words, phrases, numbers, or emojis you don’t want to see in the text box.
Enable the switch for Hide comments et Hide message requests to activate your custom word list for comments and message requests respectively.
