In the hip Meatpacking District at the southwest end of Manhattan there are excellent bars and restaurants (you should reserve early). Also the relatively new art museum The Whitney lies in this upgraded district. Above all, the southern end of the “High Line” is also located here, this disused railway line on a transfer line that was converted into a city park a few years ago. There is no traffic here, only pedestrians, street musicians, lots of trees, lots of seating, and a relaxed atmosphere that pleasantly distracts from the “Hustle & Bustle” of New York City.
The walk to the north end of the High Line is relatively long (but you can always get down from the High Line in between), but it is relatively close to the Hudson River, so you have wonderful views over the river to New Jersey or the Has Meatpacking District and Chelsea neighborhood. In 2019 there will be a bonus: At the north end of the highlight you will reach the Hudson Yards – the new district in west Manhattan, currently the largest construction project in the USA, will not only change the city’s skyline, but will also be a new attraction of its own: With shops , Restaurants and the 50 meter high, MC Escher-inspired observation tower “The Vessel”. A new spot for romantic two-person selfies!
