The iOS 13 update brought the Dark Mode feature to the iPhone. Now, five months after the release of iOS 13, we’re finally getting dark mode support in WhatsApp too.

Enable dark mode in WhatsApp on iPhone
Dark mode in WhatsApp automatically follows the system settings on your iPhone.
- If you have set dark mode to turn on automatically on your iPhone after sunset, WhatsApp will follow the same setting.
- When you manually enable dark mode on iPhone. it will also be activated on WhatsApp.
The quickest way to enable dark mode on iPhone is through Control Center. Swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen to go to the Control Center menu. If you have an old iPhone model, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to the control center.
In iPhone Control Center, tap and hold the brightness bar to see more display options. Then tap on the “Dark Mode” icon in the lower left corner of the screen to activate the system-wide dark mode on your iPhone and therefore also on WhatsApp.
You can also set automatic dark mode on your iPhone by going to Settings » Display & Brightness and enabling the “Automatic” toggle switch.
Disable dark mode in WhatsApp on iPhone
There is no option in WhatsApp settings on iPhone to selectively disable dark mode in WhatsApp while keeping it enabled systemically on the device.
To turn off dark mode in WhatsApp, you need to turn it off completely on your iPhone. In case you only want to temporarily disable dark mode in WhatsApp, the Control Center remains the quickest option.
The fastest way to enable/disable dark mode on iPhone
You can also add the Dark Mode toggle switch to the main “Control Center” screen to enable or disable Dark Mode even more quickly.
Go to Settings » Control Center on your iPhone and select the Customize Controls option.
Under the Control Center customization options, you can find the Dark Mode control in the More Controls section at the bottom of the list. Then tap the “+” icon in front of it to add it to the main Control Center screen.
After adding the “Dark Mode” toggle directly to the Control Center main screen, open the Control Center on your iPhone and tap the “Dark Mode” toggle to quickly switch between dark mode on your iPhone and WhatsApp switch.
We hope Facebook will add the option to enable or disable dark mode in WhatsApp independently of the iPhone’s system-wide dark mode setting. But until then, this is all you need to know about how to use dark mode in WhatsApp on iPhone.
