Grapes are often infested with spider mites, which draw all the juices out of the plant. Naturally, you can’t even dream of a good harvest, but experienced winegrowers have revealed the secret of properly processing grapes using an unusual means.
Previously, we told you what agricultural practices will help increase grape yields.
In cases of mild spider mite infestation, the use of rapeseed oil has worked well as an emulsion. Upon contact with pests, the oil clogs their respiratory tract and they quickly suffocate.
Plants should be sprayed evenly, without gaps, especially on the underside of the leaves. Several treatments at one-week intervals are necessary to effectively control spider mites.
You can easily make an oil-based spray by mixing water and canola oil in a 4:1 ratio. Before use and during operation, the sprayer must be shaken vigorously to mix the components.
A better result can be achieved by applying the emulsion together with sulfur (60 grams per 10 liters) on an unopened, drooping bud, where mites and their eggs overwinter. Then repeat after 5-7 days.
