KOMPAS.com – WhatsApp (WA) launched a specially designed application (native apps) for Mac computer users from Apple.
The WhatsApp application on MacOS supports video calls (video calls) with up to eight people and voice calls with up to 32 people at once.
“Launching the new WhatsApp application for Mac. Group video call of eight people and voice call of 32 people,” wrote Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on his personal Facebook account, Tuesday (29/8/2023).
Even though this update has already arrived on the mobile version of WhatsApp, support for this feature offers a new experience for desktop users. Users can do a number of jobs more efficiently on a wider screen.

“The app has been redesigned to be more familiar to Mac users, helping you get things done faster when using WhatsApp on the big screen. You can also easily share files via drag and drop in the chat room, see more message history,” Meta wrote on his official blog.
The way this feature works is similar to the mobile version. To make video calls for up to eight people on a Mac, users can directly click the “Video” icon in the group, or create a link that can be shared with other contacts outside the group.

Download the Mac-only WhatsApp application
Before trying out this new feature, make sure you have downloaded and installed the Mac-specific WhatsApp application. If you haven’t downloaded it yet, follow the steps below.
Visit the official WhatsApp site at whatsapp.com
Click “Download” in the upper right corner. There are three different columns, click the “Download” button in the Mac column. Make sure before downloading, the operating system you are running is macOS 11 or a later version. Wait for a moment. If the file has been downloaded, click the WhatsApp file with the .pkg format. When the download process is complete, login to your account by scanning the QR code on the Mac screen using your smartphone.

How to make a video call or voice call link on WhatsApp specifically for the Mac version
After successfully logging in, give the system a brief pause to sync messages from smartphone to desktop. In WhatsApp’s new look, there is a menu window on the left. Select and click the “Call” icon. The page will display the “Create Call Link” menu. The system will immediately display the link that was created automatically.

How to share video call and voice call links on WhatsApp specifically for Mac to other users
Users can choose the type of call to make, namely voice or video calls. When the settings are done, you can choose how to share the link. The options available are to share the link directly on WhatsApp, copy the link, share the link to other platforms, to schedule it directly on the Calendar. If you want to enter the voice call/video call room first, you can directly click on the link created by WhatsApp. Click “Join” to join, or “Leave” to leave.
The option to share direct links on WhatsApp can be done by selecting the WhatsApp contact manually. Options for sharing links to other platforms, consisting of Mail, iMessage, Notes, Reminders, and others.

Meanwhile, to schedule a video/voice call to your Calendar, make sure you have allowed WhatsApp to access your Calendar.
For now, the MacOS-specific WhatsApp application is still not available in the Apple App Store app store. Zuckerberg revealed that users need not worry because this special application will appear in the App Store in the near future.
