Twitter is a social media platform where many share their ideas, thoughts, life updates, and photos or videos. If you have a large collection of Tweets that you want to keep, you can download a Twitter data archive. This can be very useful for keeping track of your tweets even if you decide to leave Twitter or delete your account, or if something happens to Twitter as a whole.
You can download an archive of your Tweets to your PC, as well as iOS and Android devices. The process for doing this is slightly different on each device, but it will all be covered in this article.
In addition to downloading your tweets, you can also download an archive of information associated with your account, such as your profile information, direct messages, any media you’ve shared, followers and followers, and more.
How to download your tweets
The process for requesting an archive of your tweets It’s very easy. However, please note that it may take a few days for your information to be ready to upload. Once ready, you will receive an email notification. The process for downloading your Twitter archive will be different depending on which device you’re using, so follow the instructions for your device below.
Download via desktop
- On the main Twitter page, go to Suite option in the left sidebar.
- To select Settings & Support > Settings & Privacy.
- Go to Your account > Download an archive of your data.
Two options can occur here. If you haven’t verified your account yet, you’ll need to verify your identity in the Help Center. Follow these instructions to do this.
- After being redirected to the Help Center, below How can we help? to select I ask for information on the Twitter account.
- In the box below that says Twitter account information belongs toto select Moi.
- Below Tell us moreto select I need access to my Twitter data.
- Enter the requested information, including your full name, Twitter username, email address, country of residence, and the type of information you’d like to receive. Account information will be your profile information, Tweets will be an archive of all your tweets.
- You will then need to upload photos of your government-issued ID. Below you need to type your name as a signature.
- Check the box at the bottom, then select Submit.
If you’ve verified your account, you can verify your identity by phone or email.
- Select the send the code button.
- Look for the code sent to your phone number or email address and enter it.
- Click on Storage request button.
After that, it may take a few days for Twitter to process your request and for your information to be ready for download. Once it’s ready, you can go back to your settings for the file Download an archive of your data section and select Download the data.
Download Twitter data via the mobile app
- Tap your profile icon and select Settings & Support > Settings & Privacy.
- To select Your account > Download an archive of your data.
- To select send the code to verify your identity and enter the code that was sent to you.
- Continues Storage request.
Again, it may take a few days for your details to arrive. You can come back to this page to download your data once it’s ready.
Download Twitter data on the Twitter app for Android
- Tap the menu icon or your profile picture icon, you can have both.
- Continues Settings and Privacy > Accounts.
- Go to Data and permissions > Your Twitter data.
- Verify your identity with a code sent to your phone or email by pressing send the code and enter it.
- Continues Request data.
When your information is ready, you can return to this page in your settings to download it.
Downloading Twitter data
After you receive an email that your data is ready to download, you can follow the link in the email, which will take you to your Twitter settings. Follow these steps to download your data.
- In the link Download an archive of your data page, click the blue Download the archive button.
- On the next page, click Download the archive still. The Twitter archive .zip file will download to your computer.
- Using a file manager such as 7Zip, open the .zip file and extract the included files to your computer.
These files can be opened to view Twitter data, including tweets and media associated with your Twitter account.
