How to Distinguish Original and Fake Oxymeter

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Oximeter So it’s one of the things that patients must have covid-19 during self-isolation (isoman). Oximeter is used to check oxygen saturation in the blood. Monitoring oxygen saturation is very important considering that low oxygen levels often do not cause symptoms or are called happy hypoxia in patients with COVID-19.

Those of you who already have an oximeter may not be able to immediately feel calm. The reason is that there are irresponsible parties who take advantage of the moment and make fake products. From various sources, there are several ways to check whether the oximeter you have is genuine or fake.

1. Use to measure

Oximeter is usually practical to use just by inserting a finger in a mini-sized tool. Try measuring your oxygen saturation. If the oximeter provides graphic information, it means that the device is genuine.

Fake oximeter only shows oxygen levels without a graph. We recommend repeating up to 3 measurements to check the authenticity of the tool.

2. Tie fingers with thread or rubber

Before using the oximeter, try tying your fingers with string or rubber bands. Make the knot slightly tight so that the blood flow to the finger slows down. The original oximeter will show a steadily decreasing number. While a fake oximeter will show a fixed or increasing number.

3. Insert the pencil

Had gone viral on social media, someone put a pencil into the oximeter. You can also try it to check the authenticity of the oximeter. A fake oximeter will give a result or an oxygen saturation number. While the original oximeter will not give any results at all.

4. Check certification

Price is always the main consideration when it comes to oximeters. But actually one of the main things to pay attention to is the certification. Tools that can be trusted for their authenticity and effectiveness will be certified by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive 2002/95/EC) and CE (Conformité Européenne).
