According to the regulator, Ukrainian banknotes have a very high level of security – at least 20 elements on each bill. It is not necessary to know all of them, but even knowing a few of them will help to quickly determine the authenticity.
As noted in the National Bank, most often bills with a denomination of 200 hryvnia in 2017 are forged. But usually they are of poor quality, printed on a printer or copier.
How to identify counterfeit bills
1. Feel the bill carefully. Banknote paper differs from the usual embossed surface.
2. Shine the banknote against the light. You should clearly see the portrait of Lesya Ukrainka, the graphic sign of the hryvnia, and the inscription “UAH 200”, the coat of arms and the underlined denomination “200” should be visible on the protective film.
3. If you change the angle at which you look at the banknote, the denomination of the banknote in the lower left corner will change color from raspberry-purple to olive-green.
The press service of the NBU stressed that counterfeit banknotes can be returned at any branch of the bank. They are simply taken out of circulation with no refund.
