Displaying birthday alerts on your iPhone goes to the heart of what the modern smartphone should be. Part personal assistant, Facebook birthday alerts on iPhone are meant to let friends and family know you might want to plan something special ahead of time. They’re also designed as a kind of “look at these people here.” – a way for Facebook to drive traffic by reminding you of someone you may have forgotten. Facebook birthday alerts are useful, but they’re also ridiculously annoying, especially for those with loads of friends. You could be anywhere and suddenly your device is flashing alert after alert.
Here’s how to turn off Facebook birthday alerts on iPhone so you can focus on the things you need to.
Let’s begin. For the purposes of this tutorial, we’re using iPhone 5s and Apple’s iOS 7 operating system for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. We also use the latest version of Facebook for iOS. Depending on which iPhone you own, things might look a little different, as iOS 7 is a huge change from previous versions of iOS. Chances are, if you have an iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 4, and iPhone 4s, what you see on your device will match what’s shown here. If the Facebook app on your iPhone looks different than the one shown here, that’s okay. Go to the iTunes App Store on your device to manually update to the latest version of Facebook for iPhone.
Unlock your iPhone by entering your four-digit PIN or by swiping left to right at the bottom of the screen. iPhone 5s users can also use their fingerprint to unlock their iPhone if they have already set up Touch ID, the iPhone’s fingerprint reader home button.
Immediately, you should be taken to the home screen. Find the Settings app on your home screen. It’s entirely possible that you’ve hidden it in your application folder if you don’t see it. In our example, it’s represented by the gear icon in the lower right corner. To open .
In the Settings app, scroll down until you see an option for . Tap this option.
In your mail, contacts, and calendar settings, we recommend scrolling down until you see the option for

Now press . Tap to clear all iOS birthday notifications.
You have successfully cleared all iOS birthday calendar alerts. This means that your iPhone will no longer show you birthday notifications. What it doesn’t do is remove birthday notifications entirely. In short, users who stop there will no longer see birthday alerts on their iPhone, but will still receive them online and via the Facebook iPhone app. Fortunately, we can also kill them.
Return to the Home screen by pressing the Home button below your device screen. Now search for the Facebook app and open it.
Welcome to the Facebook News Feed. Tap the icon in the lower right corner of the screen.
Scroll down until you see and tap it.
Faucet .
Scroll down until you see “What Notifications You Get” below. Press it.
Now the Get Notifications box. From then on, Facebook won’t even remind you of birthdays. Now you won’t have to deal with the dozens of reminders we mentioned earlier. Disabling them here may also kill them on other devices you may have such as Windows phones and Android tablets as the Facebook app settings sync.
Before you decide to turn off birthday alerts on your iPhone, I encourage you to consider their usefulness first. For many, Facebook is the only way to remember individual birthdays. Does this make sense. If this is your case, it might be best to put up with them so you don’t forget someone’s special day. If that’s okay with you, turn off Facebook birthday alerts on your iPhone.
Luckily, Apple also pulls friends and family’s birthdays off Facebook and puts them into an iPhone calendar. Birthdays are pulled from Facebook and also available online via Apple’s iCloud service and Mac OS. You can turn off Facebook birthday events in your calendar if you want to delete them. However, going that far may not be a good idea.
Because Facebook likes to drive traffic and let all your friends know what’s going on in your life, your friends and family will still get Facebook birthday alerts on their phones about you. They will also continue to appear online.
