JawaPos.com – Do you still remember Threads? A new social media application from Instagram which is aimed at fighting Twitter or now called X.
Meta launched Threads in early July and when curious Instagram users signed up for the new text-oriented service, it grew to 100 million users in just five days.
However, users quickly realized that this was a “one-way street”, once you activate a Threads account, the only way to delete it is to delete your entire Instagram account. This problem was very much complained about at that time.
Most recently, Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri announced that these restrictions have now been lifted. Users who wish to leave Threads can go to Settings > Account > Delete or Deactivate Profile.
As the name suggests, it gives you the option to temporarily suspend your account or delete it permanently. Either way, your Instagram account will not be affected, Meta announced on its Threads support page.
Meta recently changed the way it displays Threads posts and it now appears on other Meta platforms like Facebook. The second change announced is that you can restrict it – go to Settings > Privacy for that.
However, please note, this only applies to Facebook and not Instagram which will continue to display your Thread posts.
As mentioned above, Threads arrived on the market earlier this year as a direct competitor to X/Twitter. New social media app Meta took just five days to reach 100 million users, a remarkable feat even for the best apps.
But this is primarily achieved by leveraging deep Instagram integration. Early users who joined Threads to check it out later stuck with the platform as they quickly realized that deleting your Threads account can only be done by deleting your entire Instagram account.
It’s taken a few months, and interest in the platform has waned, but Meta now finally lets you delete your own Threads account.
