The way to deal with persistent tingling feet is quite diverse, from changing the position of the feet, soaking the feet in warm water, massaging the feet to frequently doing footwork exercises.

But keep in mind, actually tingling is not a dangerous condition. pins and needles is a condition of numbness, tingling, itching, goosebumps, or needle-like pain that occurs in the foot area.

Usually tingling occurs due to too long in certain positions, for example sitting cross-legged, sitting with legs folded back, kneeling, until squatting.

These positions put a lot of pressure on the nerves and reduce blood flow, resulting in pins and needles. Especially if you often do these positions, the pins and needles will occur frequently or continuously.

But it cannot be denied that persistent pins and needles can also be a sign that you have symptoms of other diseases in the body as follows.

Causes of Tingling

Here are some causes of pins and needles which are symptoms of other diseases.

Injury: Pins and needles can be persistent because you have a history of injuries, for example to the torso, spine, hips, legs, ankles and feet. Diabetes: Some people with diabetes also often feel pins and needles due to nerve damage which is called diabetic neuropathy. Sciatica: Sciatica is irritation of the sciatica nerve which runs from the lower back down to the legs. When this nerve is compressed, a person will experience tingling. Tarsal tunnel syndrome: The tarsal tunnel is a narrow space on the inside of the ankle. Tarsal tunnel syndrome occurs when the nerve that runs down the back of the foot and along the inside of the ankle to the foot is compressed, pinched, or damaged. Peripheral artery disease: Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a condition when the blood arteries at the edges of the legs, arms, and abdomen narrow, reducing the amount of blood pumped and reducing blood flow. PAD sufferers will experience tingling. Tumors: Tumors or other abnormal growths such as cysts, abscesses, and non-cancerous can put pressure on the brain, spinal cord, to the feet so that they often feel tingling. Excessive alcohol consumption: Excessive alcohol consumption can also cause pins and needles. Because, alcohol damages the nerves, especially in the feet. Fibromyalgia: Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition that causes tingling, pain, and aches all over the body. Other symptoms are difficulty thinking clearly or focusing, reduced memory, to chronic fatigue. Multiple sclerosis: It’s also common for people with multiple sclerosis to experience pins and needles, even if they only last for a short time. This is because there is sensory nerve damage in the body. Stroke: Stroke can cause brain damage that affects the performance of the nerves, causing a feeling of tingling in the body.

Here’s how to deal with persistent tingling feet.

1. Change the position of the legs

A common cause of tingling due to nerve pressure due to prolonged position of the feet. Well, when the tingling occurs, change the position of your feet.

If you often get pins and needles from sitting cross-legged, then try to avoid sitting in that position too often. Even if you have to sit cross-legged, don’t change your sitting position occasionally.

2. Rest

Usually, the tingling goes away on its own when you rest your feet. Try stretching your legs for a moment and resting. In addition, sleep can also relieve tingling pain.

3. Move your legs

Apart from changing the position of the feet, when the tingling occurs continuously or frequently, then try to move the legs.

For example by taking a short walk after sitting cross-legged for too long. The goal is to re-launch blood flow in the legs and reduce pressure on the nerves.

4. Sports

Often tingling feet can also occur because you lack exercise, so try to start exercising regularly.

This is because exercise can increase blood flow in the body and relax the nerves so they don’t get tingling easily. Types of exercise that can be done are yoga, pilates, and tai chi.

5. Soak in warm water

When your feet are tingling, try soaking them in warm water. You see, hot or warm sensations can relax stiff, sore, or tense muscles that usually press on nerves and cause tingling.

But don’t get too hot, just warm enough so as not to exacerbate the inflammation that causes pain when pinning. Apart from warm water, a warm sensation can also be given by using warm ointment or a towel that has been soaked in warm water.

6. Cold compress

In addition to heat, the sensation of cold can also relieve tingling because it can reduce swelling which can put pressure on the nerves.

The trick, soak a towel in cold water then compress it to the tingling area for 15 minutes.

7. Massage

Massage can relieve pins and needles by increasing blood flow and reducing pain.

8. Salt water bath

Epsom salt contains magnesium compounds which can improve blood flow and circulation. If you have frequent pins and needles, try taking regular Epsom salt baths.

9. Cut down on alcohol

Alcohol contains toxins that can damage nerves and cause pins and needles. Try reducing your alcohol consumption when you have frequent pins and needles.

10. Healthy and balanced diet

Some pins and needles occur due to symptoms of nerve damage due to lack of nutrition and B vitamins. Therefore, try to adopt a healthy and balanced diet to avoid nerve damage.

11. Alternative therapy

If pins and needles occur frequently, you can try alternative therapies that are proven to reduce the symptoms of pins and needles due to certain diseases. These alternative therapies include reflexology, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, mindfulness meditation, and others.
