Slideshows are great for more than business-related presentations. You can use Microsoft PowerPoint to create a photo album and add music or visual effects for a memorable show.
For personal presentations for special occasions like weddings and birthdays or even slideshows for organizations where the focus is on images, let’s see how to create a photo album in PowerPoint.
Uses: As of this writing in June 2022, the photo album feature is only available in PowerPoint on Windows.
Set up a photo album in PowerPoint
Open PowerPoint and create a blank presentation or use an existing one. When you create the photo album, PowerPoint automatically places it in a new slide show.
Go to the Insert tab, select Photo Album > New Photo Album in the Images section of the ribbon.
When the photo album window opens, start by adding the photos you want to use. On the left, under Insert Image From, click “File/Disk.”
You can select one photo at a time or several by using Ctrl when clicking each one. Hit “Insert” and these photos will appear in the Album Images box in the photo album window. Continue the same process until you’ve added all the photos you want.
You can rearrange the order of the images by selecting one and then using the up and down arrows below the “Images in Album” box. You can also use Delete to delete a photo you’ve added.
If you want to add a text slide to the photo album, click “New Text Box” on the left. You can then use the up and down arrows to position that slide where you want. You can also include more text slides. You’ll add the text to these slides after you’ve created the presentation.

If you want to keep your photos as they are but make some slight adjustments, you can do that too. Select a photo from the list by checking the box. On the right, below the photo preview, you have buttons to rotate the image, adjust the contrast, and increase or decrease the brightness.
Customize photo album
Another part of setting up your photo album is choosing the layout. At the bottom of the photo album window, use the Image Layout drop-down list to select the desired layout. You can use Fit to Slide or choose one, two or four images per slide with or without a title.
When you choose a one-, two-, or four-image layout, you’ll see which photos are grouped together, indicated by numbers in the Album Images area. Again, you can use the up and down arrows to reorder them.
If you select a layout other than Fit to Slide, you can add frame to images. Use the Frame Shape drop-down list for options such as a rectangle, a rounded rectangle, or a soft-edged frame.
Captions are another feature you can use if you don’t fit your photos into slideshows. Check the box to the left under Image Options for captions under all photos. This then inserts a text box on each slide below the image with the name of the photo. You can keep this caption or change it to something more descriptive.

If you have a theme on your computer that you’d like to use, hit “Browse,” choose the theme, then click “Choose.”
Create or modify the photo album
When you’re done setting up the photo album, click “Create” and you’ll see your new slideshow.
You can then add text for captions, titles, or text slides if you’ve selected those options. You can also choose a design idea on the right, apply transitions or animations, or add music if you like.

Save your slideshow as you normally would. Then, if you want to make changes to the photo album, go to Insert > Photo Album > Edit Photo Album.
Make your changes and click “Update” to apply your changes.
You can create a photo slideshow from scratch in PowerPoint. But the photo album feature makes creating that memorable slideshow much easier and with a cohesive look.
