If you don’t clean and/or replace your washing-up brush regularly, it can even contain more bacteria than a toilet seat. Do you still doubt whether yours is still that clean? Then it’s high time to clean it.
Cleaning the washing-up brush
And cleaning that washing-up brush is very simple. In fact, you hardly have to do anything if you have a dishwasher. You can simply put it in the cutlery tray of the dishwasher and wash it at 60 degrees with the normal dishes, which kills most bacteria.
If you don’t have a dishwasher, or if the washing-up brush is made of wood (so it’s better not to put it in the dishwasher), then fortunately it’s still very simple. In that case, simply leave your dish brush in a mixture of 250 ml of white vinegar and a drop of dish soap for at least an hour. Another option is a mixture of thick bleach mixed with water. Make sure that you rinse the washing-up brush well before you use it again.
Replace dishwashing brush
Although the above cleaning methods work well, you cannot avoid the fact that the washing-up brush really needs to be replaced. How often this is necessary differs per household. For example, it makes quite a difference whether a dishwasher is also running and how plates, crockery and cutlery should be cleaned daily by the washing-up brush. But one thing is certain: when the bristles of the washing-up brush stand out, you can definitely buy a new one.
