Clinical nutrition specialist from Mochtar Riady Comprehensive Cancer Center (MRCCC) Siloam Hospital South Jakarta Inge Permadhi explained how to calculate body mass index.
The way to calculate it is weight in kilograms divided by height meters are then squared.
“For example, if he weighs 85, his height is 160, so 85 divided by 1.6 is divided again by 1.6,” said Inge when contacted Kompas.comSaturday (5/3/2022).
According to Inge, normal (ideal) weight, the value of dividing weight divided by height in meters squared is equal to 18.5 to 22.9.

The following is a list of body mass indexes:
- Less than 18.5: less weight
- 18.5 to 22.9: normal weight
- 23 to 24.9 are called over weight
- 25 to 29.9 is called OB (obesity) 1
- 30 to 39.9 is called OB2
- More than 40 is called obesity morbid or extreme obesity.
