–>–How to build post-Covid? The TURFU Festival invites you to think about it, from October 5 to 10, 2020, in Caen (Calvados). (© Drazen)
A true living laboratory of co-creation, the TURFU Festival has become in 5 years, an unmissable event of the participatory research and open innovation at Caen (Calvados).
Organized within the framework of the Fête de la Science, the event invites visitors to come and criticize, test, contribute and imagine the technologies, innovations and social interactions of today as well as those of tomorrow. This year, while the coronavirus is still raging, these topics seem more crucial than ever:
“The 2020 edition is a post-containment edition but also a crisis edition: containment has opened the way for many reflections on the world we want, and the pandemic shows us the limits of our society. It is part of this climate of urgency and questions to make its participatory contribution to the world that is being built. “
The programming of this 5th edition is mainly focused on the themes of the environment, health and the use of digital technology, through around thirty meetings. Four workshops or meetings particularly caught our attention.
The emotions behind the mask
Like a superhero or a superheroine, you roam the streets, masked, to fight against a supervillain and protect the most vulnerable. But when you try to have a discussion with others, it gets complicated …
Acting in a mask can disrupt communication, forcing us to find new ways to express our emotions to make ourselves understood. However, thanks to researcher Manon Dugué, you will discover that a smile is also expressed with the eyes.
> October 5, from 6.30 p.m. to 7.15 p.m.
Your immune system’s secret weapon
An immunity populated by armies of cells ready for war. What an explosive cocktail! And yet, it is not what you think.
It did not take less to invite you to come and discover this world which, deep within you, is constantly fighting for your health, in the company of Laurent Chatre, an expert in biology and biochemistry.
> October 6, from 6.30 p.m. to 7.15 p.m.
Information epidemic in times of crisis
Health misinformation has long flourished on the internet, but the phenomenon has intensified with the Covid-19 epidemic. WHO identifies it as a major problem, likely to hamper responses to the epidemic.
Today, there are numerous initiatives to combat this danger and bear witness to the urgency of tackling the problem. However, this process cannot be done by the imposition of principles drawn up and enacted from above, but only by the association of the population.
This workshop invites you to discover and understand the media and psychological mechanisms of fake news, while participating in a life-size research test with researchers from the University of Caen and Rouen.
> October 8, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Pop cult evening around Watchmen
On October 9, the TURFU Festival will also offer a masked and relaxed evening around a drink to decipher and re-examine the watchmen’s polyform work. This graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbson published in 1986 remakes the news with the HBO series (available on OCS in France), recently awarded the Emmy Award for best drama mini-series.
It raises several major and topical questions, including in our country: what about the right to film or identify the police? How to understand
adaptations to reality that governments allow themselves at a time when alternative truths affect confidence in democracies? How is the balance balanced between individual freedom and state security?
These are all fascinating subjects that you will discuss with Alexandra Korsakof and Samuel Etoa, two legal specialists.
> Friday October 9, from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Popular innovation and health
During the Covid-19 crisis, collaborative initiatives to design and manufacture equipment for caregivers have multiplied. These solidarity contributions played an essential role in the management of the crisis. They provided help and solutions in response to the epidemic.
During this workshop, you will be able to discover the tools and objects that were produced in this way. You will also be invited to critique existing objects, to share your own experience, but above all you will be invited to imagine, enrich, prototype and document the tools that will be necessary for us in the future.
> October 10, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
