There are useful ways to block certain contacts from seeing your WhatsApp status. You can find out what they are here.
Sharing photos or short texts in WhatsApp status are popular features of the popular messenger. But it’s not always desirable that all of your contacts see every status update you post.
Hide WhatsApp status from blocked contacts
The easiest way to block a contact from accessing your WhatsApp status is to block them completely.
- Open WhatsApp on your smartphone.
- Click that profile photo of the person to block and then click das Info-Symbolshown as a small “i” in a circle below the enlarged photo.
- Scroll all the way down until you see the button marked in red To block of the contact. Touch this.
- Confirm the message that appears with “Block”.
From now on, the contact you blocked will no longer see the status updates you’ve shared. However, they still have access to any statuses you’ve previously shared.
A notification: You also won’t receive calls within Messenger or regular messages consisting of text, pictures, videos, emojis, or audio recordings from a blocked person.

Block WhatsApp status from others via privacy settings
One way to block long-term access to your WhatsApp status for certain contacts without blocking them completely is to use the Privacy settings of the Messengers.
To do this, switch to the “Status” tab in WhatsApp and tap on the three vertically arranged dots in the upper right corner. Then choose “Privacy Status”.
You now have three options for determining who can see your status messages:
- “My contacts” grants all your contacts access to your WhatsApp status.
- “My contacts except…” lets you select people who shouldn’t see your status. All other contacts on your list have access.
- “Just share with…” ensures that no one can see your state that you haven’t explicitly chosen from your list.
After selecting one of the last two options, a list appears where you can select the contacts for which the respective exception should apply. Tap individual list items to select people. Finally, confirm your choice by ticking the box at the bottom right.
