IndependerThe Christmas leave is a fact. For many families, this not only means that the children are out of school for another two weeks, but also that one or both parents work from home to keep an eye on things. The last thing you want is an overloaded internet connection. Independer.be tells you how to avoid that.

It will happen to you: you decide to use your home office for a few days during the Christmas holidays, so that the children are not alone. But then it happens: you have a video call and the internet connection turns out to be overloaded.
This is not only very annoying, but can also be avoided by choosing a suitable internet subscription. In this specific situation you have to assume the ‘worst’: your children gaming online and streaming a series in 4K resolution, next to two parents working from home and meeting via video.
Stable internet everywhere thanks to a ‘Wi-Fi repeater’? How this can improve your browsing experience.
200 Mbps or more
In that case, an internet subscription with a minimum speed of 200 Mbps is not an unnecessary luxury. Please note: 200 Mbps is always the theoretical maximum speed. To be completely sure, it is better to opt for a subscription with download speeds above 200 Mbps.
Fiber of geen fiber?
If you are looking for such subscriptions, you will soon end up in the fiber segment. These subscriptions immediately offer you enough bandwidth and therefore higher speeds. Because: the more bandwidth, the more ‘lanes’ the digital highway offers for internet traffic – and therefore the faster your internet connection.
Although internet providers in our country are busy rolling out their fiber networks, the technology is not yet available everywhere. So be sure to check whether fiber is already available at your address if you opt for such a subscription.
From 55 euros
We find the cheapest internet subscription with the fastest speeds at Mobile Vikings. You pay 55 euros for speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps. This is a fiber subscription that is also by far the cheapest in the market. For comparison: for 1,000 Mbps you pay 71 euros per month with Orange and 76.14 euros with Telenet.
Zen Fiber from Orange costs you 61 euros per month and offers you 400 Mbps per month. Don’t be misled by the name of the subscription: it is not a real fiber connection, but technology with a coaxial connection. This does not require a fiber optic cable to be available at your address. Telenet’s All-Internet subscription is slightly more expensive at 61.14 euros per month and offers you speeds of up to 300 Mbps.

More than just bandwidth
There are more factors than just overload that can lead to slow internet. You may be using an old modem or router, or your equipment may not be set up properly. That can immediately reduce your internet speed. Do you have equipment from your provider? Please contact us to ask whether everything is up to date and correctly configured.
It would be a shame if you paid for an internet subscription with sufficient bandwidth, without enjoying all the benefits. If you feel that your internet connection is suddenly a lot slower or that files are not arriving even though you actually sent them, then it is a good idea to test your internet speed.
