How to apply to be a poll worker in New York? – Telemundo New York (47)

NEW YORK – The presidential elections will be held in New York on Tuesday, November 5, and voters can go out to exercise their right to vote from now on. October 26th with the start of early voting.

Because of this, the New York City Board of Elections reminded residents over 17 that they are looking for poll workers for the 2024 elections that poll workers can earn $250 per day and up to $100 for training sessions as well.

Positions currently open include election inspector, translator and student election worker.

Here we explain how to apply for positions if you are interested.

WHO CAN GET THE JOB?

You can become an election inspector in New York City if:

  • Registered voter living in New York City
  • Registered in the Democratic or Republican party
  • Able to read and write in English

You can become an interpreter in New York City if:

  • A permanent resident of the US over 18 years of age and living in New York City
  • Proficiency in English and the language of the translator
  • Spanish interpreters are needed in all counties
  • Chinese interpreters are needed in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens
  • Korean, Hindi* and Bengali translators needed in Queens
    • For Hindi interpreters: Please indicate in your application whether you can also speak Punjabi.
  • You do not need to be a registered voter

You can be a student poll worker in New York City if you:

  • Be 17 years old by Election Day and get permission from a school official and parent or guardian.
  • Be a US citizen
  • Bilingual students who speak Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Hindi and Bengali are encouraged to apply.
  • Attending school in New York City.
  • Have a grade point average of at least 2.5 (B or 80).
  • Register to be a “future voter.”

HOW GOOD IS THE SALARY?

Voters can earn $250 per day and up to $100 for training sessions as well.

Election inspectors can earn $250 per day and can earn $100 for training. The training period is only paid if you pass, but you can earn up to $600 for completing the course, passing the exam, and working two election days.

Translators can earn $250 per day and $25 per training. The training period is only paid if you pass, but you can earn up to $425 for completing the course, passing the exam, and working two election days.

Student poll workers must attend a four-hour training class; Classes are available on Saturdays and Sundays at each district office. You will be paid $100 for attending the class and passing the exam, as well as for working a selection event.

On Election Day, if you work all day, show up at your designated polling place at 5:00 a.m. and work until the polls close, you will receive $250 for the entire day. If you are given the hour shift, show up at your designated polling place at 3:00pm and work until the polling place closes, you will receive $125.

WHAT ARE THE RESULTS OF DOING ELECTION WORK?

Staff are needed during the early in-person voting period and on Election Day. Times and days may vary.
