Heating oil subsidy: How much is reimbursed?
As with the gas price brake, those who heat with oil are not reimbursed for the entire additional costs. Instead, a so-called reference price is used.
This is uniform nationwide and is 71 cents per liter for heating oil including sales tax. If you bought heating oil for more than 1.42 euros per liter (including sales tax) during the relief period, you can submit the application. Everything up to this amount must be borne by yourself.
Everything that is then above the price of 1.42 euros per liter will be reimbursed at 80 percent.
Prerequisites for the heating oil subsidy
In order for the application to be approved and the heating oil subsidy to actually land on the account, a number of requirements must be met.
1. The order must have been placed during the relief period
On the one hand, the delivery date must officially have taken place within the so-called relief period. This means the heating oil must be between January 1st, 2022 and December 1st, 2022. You can find the date on the invoice.
In Bavaria, however, there is a special case with the heating oil subsidy: The order date can also be specified here if you have proof of this, such as an order confirmation. If the order date is within the relief period and the heating oil was delivered by March 31, 2023 at the latest, this requirement is met.
2. The price of heating oil must be at least twice as high as the 2021 average
On the other hand, the price for the heating oil that was ordered during the relief period must have been at least twice the average value for 2021. The reference value for heating oil is 71 cents per liter (including sales tax). “An amount up to double the reference price must be borne by the residents of the private households themselves,” writes the Bavarian Ministry of Social Affairs on its website.
3. The calculated heating oil subsidy must be at least 100 euros
If you are entitled to the heating oil subsidy, but only for less than 100 euros, you will not receive any money. Because the heating oil subsidy is only paid out from a minimum amount of 100 euros.
The heating oil subsidy is also capped. Only additional costs up to 2000 euros per private household will be reimbursed.
How is the heating oil subsidy calculated in Bavaria?
There is a hardship calculator on the website of the Bavarian Ministry of Social Affairs. There you can calculate whether and to what extent you are entitled to the heating oil subsidy.
If you want to calculate the heating oil subsidy yourself, you can use the following formula: 0.8 x(invoice amount – 2 x reference price x order quantity)
For example, if you bought 2500 liters for a price of 1.50 euros, the calculation would be: 0.8 x (3750 euros – 2 x 0.71 x 2500) = 160 euros
You would therefore be entitled to a 160 euro heating oil subsidy.
Important: You must be entitled to a heating oil subsidy of at least 100 euros. Amounts below this will not be paid out. A maximum of 2000 euros will be paid out per private household.
