How to Apply for Heating Cost Subsidy in Baden-Württemberg 2022: Step-by-Step Guide

From May 8, 2023, private households in Baden-Württemberg that heat with heating oil, liquid gas, wood pellets, woodchips, wood briquettes, logs and coal or coke can double the costs compared to the reference prices in the period from January to December 2022 (see below) from 2021, retrospectively apply for hardship assistance. Applications can be submitted via an online portal that will be available from May 8, 2023. Tenants who are supplied with central heating are not eligible to apply. Here the landlord must be active for you. The heating cost subsidy is not to be confused with the hardship aid “Energy for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Baden-Württemberg” or the heating cost subsidy II.

How to apply for help

First of all, you should make sure that you have the necessary documentation. According to the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Environment, invoices, bank statements or other receipts for payments for the respective fuels are sufficient. Then proceed as follows:

• Use the Fuel Aid Calculator to see if you are eligible to apply.

• fuel oil: 71 cents/litre (including sales tax)
• LPG: 57 cents/litre (including sales tax)
• wood pellets: 24 cents/kg (including sales tax)
• wood chips: 11 cents/kg (including sales tax)
• wood briquettes: 28 cents/kg (including sales tax)
• firewood: 85 euros/m² (including sales tax)
• coal/coke: 36 cents/kg (including sales tax)

How much is the refund?

The amount of the refund may vary. You can use the Locate Fuel Assist Calculator. However, there is both a lower and upper limit for withdrawals. Households can only receive a payment from a reimbursement amount of 100 euros. The maximum amount is 2,000 euros per household.
