Instagram is a social network in which it has always been very difficult to add external links to other sites and web pages. In 2021 they created the link stickers for stories, but little else: you can’t add links in posts or comments, or anywhere else.
The only exception in this regard is the bio link in our profile. Now this rule has changed, since last week Meta (Instagram’s parent company) announced that up to 5 links can be added in the bio. It was time!
How to add up to 5 links in the Instagram bio
The restriction of putting a single link in the profile has made many Instagram users use tools such as Link tree o Lnk.Bio. These applications work as a “hub” or link tree where influencers can redirect followers to other platforms such as Twitch, Twitter, online stores and other reference sites.
The bad thing about these apps is that, even though they are free, their most interesting features are always behind a paywall. Luckily, thanks to this new native feature of Instagram, we can do without these link trees and add the links directly in the profile bio. Let’s see how it works.
- Open the Instagram app and go to your profile.
- Click on “Edit profile”.
- Choose “links”.
- Now tap on “Add external link”.
- Add the URL of the link and a descriptive name. Click on the “V” symbol that you will see in the upper right margin to save the changes.
In this way, you can add up to a total of 5 links, which will appear in the biography of your Instagram profile.
If we look at the screenshot above, we will see that the links are “folded”. In other words, not all hit links are shown. First we have to click on the links section to open a dropdown and from there select the link that interests us.
Therefore, for users to reach the destination page they will have to make two touches: one to open the link dropdown and another to select the desired link. This, for practical purposes, is like using a link tree, but with the “disadvantage” of being limited to a maximum of 5 links per profile.
If you were using a tool like Linktree to add a few links, this new Instagram feature might come in handy for you. On the contrary, if you want to continue having the option of adding as many links as you need, you will still have to continue using (and paying for) a third-party application that resolves the ballot for you.
