How to add folder shortcuts to the start menu in Windows 11

The new version of Microsoft’s operating system changes its design radically in many ways and one of those is precisely in terms of access to special folders (downloads, music, documents, images, etc.). For that reason, we are going to teach how add these shortcuts to said folders al menu from beginning on Windows 11.

Luckily, it is not something complicated and within all, the change is not too great; we will be able to appreciate these folders in a more direct and intuitive way compared to Windows 10. The only difference is that we will have to activate them to be able to use them, they are not activated by default.

Add folder shortcuts to the start menu in Windows 11

The Windows 11 start menu has changed radically, the new design is very different from what we are used to with Windows 10. Currently we have some shortcuts in the left sidebar of the start menu.

But in the new version of Microsoft’s operating system, we are going to find them as a row of simple glyph-shaped icons without labels at the bottom of the start menu.

Setting.

In order to view these shortcuts, we will first have to activate them. This is something we can do from the “Windows Settings”. Therefore, the first thing we will do is look for “Settings” from the start menu or we can press Windows + i on the keyboard.

Personalization.

Once “Settings” opens, we will have to go to “Personalization” and then to “start”.

Configure start menu.

Here we will be in the startup configuration, so we are going to look for the “Folders” section.

Activate each special folder to have it as a shortcut in the Windows 11 start menu.

We are going to see a list of folder names and with switches on the right side. Here we will find the following folders: Settings, File Explorer, Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, Videos, Network and Personal Folder.

So what we will have to do is simply move the switch to the right of each of these special folders to activate it and see it in the start menu as a shortcut.

Once we have all the folders that we want activated, we will simply have to close the Settings menu. Next time we click the start button, we will see all shortcuts to folders in the bottom corner of the start menu.

In the event that we change our mind and do not want to have access to any of the folders, all we have to do is return to the same section that we discussed earlier and move the switch to deactivate it; That would be all.
