How to Activate the Lost WhatsApp Chat Feature Alone

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Instant messaging app WhatsApp has a feature that can remove messages or chats automatically from the chat room. Chats in that room will disappear within 7 days of the message being sent or received.

Previous features Dissapearing Messages or temporary messages only exist in some instant messaging apps, such as Signal. But since November last year, Whatsapp has brought this feature to its users.

The lost message feature itself can be used in private or group chats. However, specifically for group chats, the admin of the group can set the admin to be the only one who can activate this feature.

Then the messages in the chat room will disappear after seven days of being there. For now the setting for that time is not yet available, but maybe Whatsapp will add this setting as in the Signal application.

Messages received or sent prior to activation of the temporary message feature will not be affected, so users can still view the message.

Using the temporary message feature has a few things that users should be aware of, such as message previews, replies, screenshots, and message backups.

Reported from Pocket-lint, preview or preview the message will still appear in the notification section even if the user has not opened the WhatsApp application for more than seven days. But the preview will disappear when the user opens the app.

Then if the user replies to a message, the message that was replied to may still appear in the chat room after a period of seven days.

Then if the temporary message is continued to another chat room that does not activate this feature, then the message will not disappear and will still look like a normal message.

Regarding chat backups, if the user does a backup before the temporary messages disappear, the messages that are backed up will include those messages. However, these temporary messages will disappear when the user performs a backup restore.

Taking screenshots or screenshot and saving photos in temporary messages can still be done as long as the message has not disappeared.

Reported from the official website WhatsApp, automatically received photo messages on WhatsApp will be automatically saved to the storage media.

If the temporary messaging feature is turned on, the media sent in the chat room will be lost. However, the media will be saved on the phone if the auto download setting is on.

To turn off these settings, users can go to WhatsApp Settings > Storage and data.
