How to activate and use eSIM on iPhone

For those of you who want to use eSim on your iPhone device, here is a guide you can follow.

eSIM already used by Apple in recent years, even starting from the era iphone X. However, in Indonesia, the use of eSIM is still very low because only few people know about it.

Using an eSIM instead of a physical SIM card has many benefits, from better security to support for more than one phone line on a single device. However, eSIM has a series of configuration processes in order to use it.

Unlike physical SIMs in general, it is sufficient to insert the SIM into the appropriate slot on the device and immediately make a short registration.

Also, not many mobile operators provide eSIMs in Indonesia. There are only two operators that provide eSIM, viz Smartfren and wear. Each of these mobile operators has a different way of activating eSIM, but essentially, users just need to purchase the eSIM package along with their existing data package and activate it in accordance with each operator’s regulations.

And here’s how to use eSIM on iPhone:

  • Go to Settings on your iPhone, then tap Cellular
  • Tap Add eSIM, then Use QR Code
  • Scan the code your operator gave you and your eSIM will be downloaded automatically
  • After downloading the eSIM, your service will launch and calls and text messages will start arriving

If the eSIM is not fully functional, simply restart your phone and the problem will be fixed. And if Friends of Tech wants to switch devices, the eSIM can be transferred to a new device in the following way.

Go to Settings, Cellular, Add Cellular Plan, then select the Transfer from Another iPhone option. And make sure both iPhones are running the latest iOS operating system, then proceed by tapping Transfer and entering the verification code that appears on your new iPhone.

This is how to use an eSIM on an iPhone, make sure the device you use is an iPhone X series and the latest. Because on devices older than that version, it still doesn’t support using eSIM.
