I started a new garden this year and I have no compost left over. The pile is stacked this fall. How could the composting process be accelerated so that it does not have to wait three years (only then to decompose completely)? Zanda Mālpilis asks.

The bigger the pile, the more successful composting will be. Life processes in nature continue as long as the temperature is not lower than +5 degrees.
When frost comes, a small pile will freeze, and the processes will stop, continuing only in the spring. If the pile is large, only the crust will be frosted, but inside the good microorganisms will feel good.

Even now, leaves, grass clippings and other material can be raked to add to and increase the pile.
If it has already started to warm, the processes taking place in the pile can really be accelerated, for example, by replenishing the army of good microorganisms.
For this purpose, pour the product Biocompostatės, intended for compost, into the stacked pile. In order for microorganisms to immediately get to the warmest parts of the pile and start working, holes are punched in the pile. The biocomposter also has a dry form (like peat), but it is better to use it if you stack the pile – spread it in layers.
Natural remedies will also work for earthworms. For example, a valerian root is dug up at the edge of the forest, chopped, placed in water and then watered in a pile. If the location is known, the root can be found by the leaves of the plant, which are still well preserved.
Earthworm activity and contribution to the compost will increase if the pile is supplemented with coffee grounds.
It is recommended to cover the compost (including stacked beds). Both black film and agronet are suitable for this purpose. It is important that the compostable mass is moist, but not too wet in the rain. If the mass is wet, it is cold, and when frost occurs, it will freeze deeply. In addition, this frost is stored for a long time, composting processes resume late.

After such help, the compost will be usable already in the spring. However, the parts of the coarser plants will not actually decompose. They are sifted and transferred like yeast to the new pile together with the good microorganisms.
Partially decomposed compost can also be poured into the bed intended for pumpkins and cucumbers. It is rare to make three-year compost anymore, because it has to be reloaded, and besides, three compost piles take up a lot of space in the garden.
