How the turn under the station will connect with the streets of “Yuzhen”

There is still no plans for “Kukush” Street, properties are yet to be expropriated on “Macedonia” Blvd.

The road infrastructure on the south side and the connecting tunnels with the Central Station have yet to be designed and construction companies are being sought. No technical plans have been prepared so far for the extension of “Kukush” street, which should ensure a conflict-free transition between the “Rodopi” overpass, “Macedonia” Blvd. and the future underpass under the railway line (master plan) developed in the “Yuzhen” region. “Now we need to assign the road project, secure financing and select a company to carry out the project,” the mayor of the region, Kostadin Yazov, explained to “Maritsa”.

The Municipality is planning a discussion with experts and citizens to find the best solutions. The breakthrough, which comes out of Dimitar Talev St., should connect with Macedonia Blvd., Kukush St. and Dame Gruev St., on which traffic will be distributed. The main question is what will be the road connection with “Kukush”, along which , according to the General Master Plan, the South Tangent of the city passes. For now, the builders of the tunnel are engaged only in the construction of the plant and in the expansion of Via “Dimitar Talev”, but it is not clear whether at the intersection with “Kukush ” Street there will be a two-level intersection, a roundabout or a traffic light. There is no plan yet for traffic on Macedonia Blvd. Years ago there were ideas to make the current Macedonia road two lanes and take the traffic in the south-north direction, and the local one to widen (even to 2 lanes) and take the north-south road system. The other option is

the parallel “Macedonia” and “D. Talev” to become one-way.

Along this street, the turn leads to Dimitar Talev Street

Another important case study in the same area is the intersection of “Kukush” St. with “Macedonia” Blvd. According to the plans of the National Railway Infrastructure Company, there will be another structure instead of the concrete bridge in the future, more high and, consequently, with longer approaches. The problem is that to achieve a normal slope on the south side, the ascent to the future facility must begin much earlier than the current crossing of “Kukush” and “Macedonia”, which suggests that the construction of a two-level crossing will most likely be be necessary.

At this point, it is only clear that the breakthrough on the south side of the station, which exits on “Dimitar Talev” street a few meters from the former Halls, according to the project, should connect on “Byalo More” street with “Viale Macedonia”. However, the design was not commissioned.

“If the Plovdiv Municipality empowers the regional administration and assigns us to initiate a procedure, we are ready to help, as we did with the plan for ‘Kukush’ Street, drawing it up and agreeing it with all the authorities,” he commented. Kostadin Yazov.

The road link design between breakthrough, Dimitar Talev St. and Macedonia Blvd. was not awarded,

because the properties have not been expropriated. They are included in the annual program for municipal property management and I ordered the start of the procedures, said Deputy Mayor for Construction in Plovdiv Municipality Plamen Raichev.

He added that until the expropriation is completed, there is no way to assign a project and choose a contractor to connect the well with “Macedonia” Blvd.

The alienation procedures take a long time and sometimes take two or three years. Plamen Raichev clarified that within the scope of the two streets there are, in addition to private property, property belonging to BDZ and NKŽI. We wrote them letters, but there was no response, the deputy mayor noted.

If the construction of the tunnel to the Central Station will consolidate the municipal road infrastructure at present, the traffic in the “South” area will be even more congested, especially if they demolish the concrete bridge, as stipulated in the contract between NKŽI and the contractor. From the new two-lane two-lane route, cars will have to move in two directions along the Indian wire, only in the two existing lanes along the former Hali. To get into traffic on Macedonia Blvd., they have to turn left onto Dimitar Talev St. towards the traffic light, where it is almost continuous and now heavily trafficked.

At this stage, it is unclear what will happen to the modernization or reconstruction of the concrete bridge if they decide to remove it by the time the station breakthrough is built. NKŽI assures that it has prepared a project, but no financing has been secured for the construction of the plant, nor has a procedure for choosing a builder been activated.
