Oos can regularly be seen in the program assisting stressed employees. “If you give a little, you get a lot back,” he says. “The most important thing is to be there for those boys. Not only on the work floor, but also when they have problems. I always say: the door is always open, don’t keep walking around with it. Come to me and we will solve it. I just care about those guys. They are family to me,” said the sympathetic ‘pickle king’.
The director does not understand why some managers do not do this. “It doesn’t take that much energy. They are people, you know. And my people ensure that we are successful, make beautiful products and have fun together,” he says. People who do not feel well cannot work well and that is not in the interest of a manager, he believes: “If you do not enjoy your work, you are potentially a heart patient.”
Kesbeke thinks company culture is important: “We always eat together at noon, then we make a nice lunch of it. Every day we get fresh bread, people can eat well and talk a bit about it.”
Second season
The big question for many fans of the series: will there be a second season of ‘The Gherkin King’? Oos doesn’t know that yet. “We are seriously considering it,” he says.
