Special times spark new ideas. The Gartenstadt music association took a new path and ventured into the digital world for the first time. The New Year’s concert of the musicians around the conductor Tanja Domes has a long tradition, but Corona did not allow rehearsals and no live entertainment to start the new year.
It was decided to go online as a small thank you for all musicians and all loyal fans and celebrated a premiere that should be unique in our group. The board of directors around Max Mages brought together the highlights of the last few years in pictures, films and above all in sound. Many live recordings, original recordings and glimpses behind the scenes that reflect the typical problems of the lockdown time were impressively formed into a 37-minute video that you can experience on your own new YouTube channel.
When making music, toilet paper rolls flew
“Quite a few night shifts have been put on in the past few days,” remarked the first chairman, Max Mages, “your own apartment has become a television studio.” The musical presentations were moderated live from Birkenweg and together Max Mages and conductor Tanja Domes once again demonstrated their charm and humor.
Each musician sent his own little Corona music thought. Toilet paper rolls flew in between playing music. Putting the individual sequences together was sometimes stressful, because nobody had digital experience in this area, said the chairman, who is extremely satisfied with the overall work. Max Mages left the question of when one can experience the garden city’s music association live again.

Where can the video be found?
The opening of the marketplace concerts in March and an Easter concert in the foyer are planned. Now it just depends on how the pandemic develops and what is then allowed. We want to keep talking, said the chairman about this special New Year’s concert, which you can find under the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jxrg4-j1IJQ or on the Facebook page of the Gartenstadt music association.
Music that was my first love, One Moment in Time or the Radezky March could not be missing. For the finale there was the Ode to Joy from the fourth movement of the ninth symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven, all musicians wished a happy New Year and Max Mages emphasized that music can be a magic agent against many ailments.
