How the creator of the first winter tire adapted to the climate in Europe – ᐉ News from Fakti.bg – Technologies

It is a well-known fact that in the Scandinavian Peninsula and in the northern parts of Russia, the majority cars are equipped with Nokian tires. The Finnish manufacturer has long proven its advantages in harsh winters, but for some time Nokian has entered the European market.

Nokian Tires created the world’s first winter tire in 1934 due to the need for safety in the harsh conditions of the Scandinavian winter. The revolutionary innovation called “The Weather Tire” (Kelirengas in Finnish) was developed for trucks and buses, and two years later in a version for cars called “Snow Hakkapeliitta”. These tires, which are being improved every year, are still used today, but they are not suitable for much milder winters in Central and Eastern Europe.

The White Hell Test Center in Ivalo, Finland, is a world-famous location where tires are tested in harsh winter conditions over the Arctic Circle. To make tests in real conditions for the Europeans, the Finns made another facility. The newest facility in the testing network is the state-of-the-art test center in Santa Cruz de la Sarsa, Spain – “Hakka Ring”, as experts like to call it.

It is there that the brand takes precision tests to a new level, testing summer and all-season tires, but also winter tires for Europe. The conditions are similar to the real summers and winters in Central and Eastern Europe, which means that all Nokian Tires products are subjected to relentless testing in authentic European climate conditions.
