Done Cash and paper tickets: How the bank card could soon conquer trains and buses

The public transport industry wants to say goodbye to physical tickets entirely within twelve years. An interim solution is now emerging. The SBB have taken on the task of developing a concept.

In Graubünden you can pay on the bus with the Swisspass, credit or debit card.

Paper tickets on buses, trams and trains are being phased out. The public transport industry wants to digitize ticket sales as quickly as possible: mobile phones instead of coins and paper is the motto. But on the journey from the classic ticket to the fully digitized ticket, a stopover is now becoming apparent. The focus is on a solution that the canton of Graubünden is promoting. Since last December, passengers have been able to buy their bus and train tickets there by card. The readers that are on the platform or directly on the bus also accept debit and credit cards in addition to the Swisspass with payment function.
