How satisfied does Mitsotakis feel now? 150 houses were deemed unsuitable after the fires in Attica – 2024-08-22 04:22:53

On August 13, a few hours after the large fire that burned NE Attica was extinguished, the prime minister appeared satisfied during the inter-ministerial meeting at the Ministry of Climate Crisis, on the one hand, about the reflexes of Civil Protection and, on the other hand, that less than 100 houses had been destroyed.

“Every year we try to get better, with the conditions unfortunately becoming more and more difficult,” said Mr Kyriakos Mitsotakis and expressed his satisfaction at the improved coordination between the co-competent agencies and services, which, he added, is an achievement for the functioning of the state and its structures.

“We have full confidence in those who handle the operational activity of the aerial media,” he stressed, with the briefing provided to the prime minister’s accredited editorial partners concluding by noting that fewer than 100 houses were damaged.

The first rebuttal

On Monday came the first prime ministerial refutation. In a statement, the Ministry of Climate Crisis stated that in nine municipalities, 277 autopsies were carried out in buildings, of which 242 were in residences, 28 in warehouses, 3 in public buildings and 4 in business premises.

“From these autopsies it has emerged that 146 houses are characterized as unfit for use and to be demolished (“red”) and temporarily unfit for use requiring repair work (“yellow”), with the distribution in the two categories being 55 and 91 respectively. Also, 96 residences are characterized – after the autopsies have been carried out – as suitable for use (“green”) with some – possibly – light damages” was noted in the announcement, which was far from what was leaked by Megaros Maximos a few days earlier.

The second “hit”

With the meeting under the Prime Minister at the Pentelis town hall underway, the ministry of Vassilis Kikilia released the “state aid framework measures” for the fire that broke out in Attica on August 11. The relevant graph shows that after 312 autopsies, 150 houses (not counting the four damaged or unsuitable houses in Megara) in the Municipalities of NE Attica were either deemed unfit for use (yellow) or demolished (red), proving that Mr. Mitsotakis he consciously lied on 8/13 or received false information from his subordinates, which also means that he is unable to place suitable people in critical positions.
