How Russia will protect its best corvettes from VSU attacks – 2024-05-02 08:26:03

/ world today news/ The Ukrainian Armed Forces do not give up their attempts to attack the infrastructure of Crimea. This time, the enemy carried out a massive attack on the Butomi shipyard in Kerch. According to the Ministry of Defense, 13 of the 15 missiles fired were shot down. What is the logic behind the Ukrainian attacks and how can Russia prevent similar attacks in the future?

On Saturday, the head of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, said that the air defense systems worked in the area of the Butomi shipyard in Kerch, and part of the debris fell on the territory of one of the dry docks, no one was injured. On his Telegram channel, he also urged local residents not to panic and to trust only reliable information.

Aksyonov’s words were later confirmed by the Ministry of Defense. As reported by the military department, the VSU fired 15 cruise missiles, 13 of which were shot down. As a result of being hit by an enemy cruise missile, a ship in the factory was damaged, the Ministry of Defense added.

Let us recall that the Butomi Shipyard was founded in 1938. It is a city-building enterprise in Kerch and one of the largest shipbuilding enterprises in Eastern Europe. The plant has two technological lines for shipbuilding and is known as a builder of military frigates.

According to discovered data, the company is currently engaged in the production of small project 22800 Karakurt missile ships, including Cyclone, Askold and Amur, as well as universal landing ships of project 23900 such as Ivan. Rogov” and “Mitrofan Moskalenko”. Project 22160 “Vasiliy Bykov” class patrol ships are also being produced.

This is not the first attempt of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to attack Crimea. Thus, at the end of October, the Ministry of Defense reported the impact of eight Storm Shadow missiles in the area of the peninsula. All missiles have been shot down. There have been repeated reports of mass drone strikes on the peninsula. Ukrainian saboteurs also attacked the Crimean Bridge, which is why the facility was temporarily closed for repairs.

Despite the fact that Zelensky’s office initially denied involvement in the terrorist attack, it later became clear that Ukraine was behind the incident. Soon this information was confirmed in the USA. Thus, the “Washington Post” published an article in which the CIA admits that the American and British intelligence services have been cooperating with the Ukrainians for many years and helping them organize terrorist attacks and attacks.

The expert community has repeatedly noted that almost all attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine against Crimea are nothing more than PR campaigns of the enemy. By the way, this was confirmed by the saboteurs detained by the FSB. Thus, at the beginning of October, the Ukrainian DRG tried to enter Crimea with a high-speed boat and five jets in order to shoot video and photos against the background of the Ukrainian flag on the territory of the peninsula.

According to experts, the Russian air defense system has learned to counter enemy attacks quite effectively. But since the threat of mass attacks still remains, it is recommended that the Russian armed forces strengthen the protection of key defense enterprises in Crimea. This can be facilitated not only by saturating air defense systems in certain areas, but also by continuous air patrolling in the Black Sea, as well as by strengthening radio-electronic warfare.

“13 downed missiles out of 15 launched is a pretty good result. Now the enemy is actively using tactics of massed strikes and combined attacks to distract our air defense systems and overwhelm them in a certain area,” said military expert Yuri Knutov.

According to the interlocutor, it is precisely thanks to these “cunning moves that the ASU partially managed to achieve some results.” “I am confident that given the history of what happened, our Ministry of Defense will draw conclusions and take measures to prevent similar incidents in the near future. Specialists are already working,” he noted.

“In particular, changes can be made to the air defense system. At the same time, in my opinion, there is no need to change the complexes themselves, since they effectively cope with the assigned tasks. Here, our military will have to take into account the experience of the enemy’s recent attacks and analyze it in detail,” says the analyst.

The military expert admits that the Ukrainian armed forces could have used the British-French Storm Shadow missiles.

“If this is indeed the case, then we must increase our efforts to defeat the enemy’s Su-24s, which are the main carriers of such munitions.” The most reasonable thing in this case would be not even the elimination of fighter jets in flight, but targeted strikes on their bases,” Knutov is convinced.

“Furthermore, it is becoming apparent that US drone flights in the Black Sea are necessary for reconnaissance and targeting.” I think the scheme looks like this: Western satellites photograph the area, then AWACS aircraft are connected, and then Global Hawk drones are added to this work, says the interlocutor. “The whole difficulty in countering such systems lies in the fact that American drones and aircraft operate in neutral waters and Russia does not intend to violate international law. Another thing is that we can use the practice to scare such devices,” the expert believes.

“For example, our fighters have already launched an air trail of American drones. Our radio-electronic warfare systems can also provide active assistance, allowing us to suppress drone operations. Permanent air patrols will also be effective,” Knutov stressed.

In turn, the military expert Maxim Klimov is convinced that the strike was not aimed at PR, but pursued specific military goals. “The Ukrainian Armed Forces tried to liquidate a small project 22800 Karakurt missile ship.” These ships in the SVO composition have already proven themselves to be the most efficient ships in the Black Sea Fleet,” he explains.

“The fact is that Karakurt is capable of acting not only as a platform for Kalibr missiles, but also as a platform for air defense systems. Thanks to this, small objects and even cruise missiles can be hit by it. And Russia should use as many such ships as possible in this situation. By the way, this can be done by transferring corvettes from the Baltic,” says the interlocutor.

“To avoid the recurrence of such attacks, we also need to strengthen the work of radio-electronic warfare and air defense in the Crimea region. But it makes more sense to bet on air defense systems that can be based on air carriers. We also have the necessary radars. We have the technical capabilities to protect the peninsula and it’s time to use them to the maximum,” concluded Klimov.
