Electric cars have started to gain more ground on the Romanian market as well. In fact, in 2022 Romanians bought over 10,000 such cars, three times more than in 2021.
The tendency of buyers to move towards ecological or economical car models also emerges from the decrease in the offer of cars with motors dieselwhich accounted for less than 15% of all new car sales in 2022, a report said motor.
The increase in the electric vehicle fleet also means, however, a change in approach in terms of infrastructure. More fuel stations are needed on the high-speed roads being built in Romania. But it is not known exactly how those stations will be powered.
On the other hand, it is not known how much it will cost us at some point, in the near future, “a full electric car” and whether it will be more profitable to keep classic or hybrid cars.
Dumitru Chisăliță: “The electric car has its limitations”
The energy expert, Dumitru Chisăliță, explained in an interview for Ziare.com why he believes that, at least in the next few decades, in Romania it is practically impossible to switch to a totally non-polluting car park made up of cars with exclusively electric propulsion .
“I don’t think the electric car is the future of transportation in this world. It will be an alternative for certain applications, but I do not think that we, at least until 2050, will not replace the entire fleet of diesel and gasoline engines with electric engines. This is my filling. The number of these electric cars that will be used for certain applications will increase a lot, clearly, but I don’t think it is possible to discuss a 100% replacement of the current fleet of cars with electric ones,” said Dumitru Chisăliță.
He is of the opinion that the electric car is very useful “for trips, let’s say relatively concentrated in the city area, in the peri-urban area, on short distances, let’s say, on certain supply lines. But it has its limits in terms of storage capacity, engine utilization and charging capabilities or infrastructure.”
But since Romania produces quite a bit of energy, “the question is where do they get this electricity, because we are currently inin the situation where we don’t have electricity, let’s turn on the light bulb“, is the opinion of the expert.
Currently, in Romania’s energy balance, we have 28% crude oil, 11% coal, 29% natural gas. “All three mean almost 70%, so how can I replace this percentage with electricity, if now this amount, let’s say renewable and hydro means 11%?”, Chisăliță also said.
