Queen Consort Camilla was able to build for herself a prestigious position in the ruling family, to establish a different image for herself than the British media portrayed her at the beginning of her relationship with Prince Charles at the time.
Her first media appearance was when she accompanied King Charles on an official visit to recognize Zimbabwe’s independence in 1980, and in 2000, she was officially presented to Queen Elizabeth II.
Five years later, Camilla was recognized as a key member of the royal family after her marriage to Charles.
Camilla accompanied Charles to the United States on her first official overseas trip as Duchess of Cornwall in November 2005.
In 212, Queen Elizabeth awarded her the Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order.
In 2022, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne, the late Queen announced her sincere wish that Camilla would be known as “Queen Consort” when Charles becomes king.
During all these years, Camilla worked hard as one of the senior figures in the royal court, supported her husband in his royal role, championed charities, supported issues related to women and children, and worked to eradicate illiteracy and raise awareness about osteoporosis.
