When the pastor has been married long term, it is natural to see a change in how often you have sex.
Ian Kerner, PhD, a sex therapist and author of So Tell Me About the Last Time You Had Sex, says that new couples often have periods of high sexual frequency because of the excitement of the start of a new relationship.
However, over time, the novelty factor will naturally disappear, and sexual frequency may drop. This may be due to decreased libido or one partner does not have the same passion.
This change often makes couples wonder, actually, how often do couples make love?
As quoted from the page Men’s Healtha study from 2017 by the Archives of Sexual Behavior shows that the average frequency of American couples making love is 56 times a year or about once a week.
If the sexual frequency of a couple does not match this number, there is no need to worry as long as both partners are satisfied when making love.
However, if you’re not happy with a change in the frequency of sex, it may be time to take action, such as struggling to create opportunities to make love in the midst of your busy day.
Not only that, there’s not really a ‘right’ amount of frequency for a couple to make love, as long as both partners remain happy and satisfied with their sex lives.
If you want to keep doing it more but, Kerner suggests trying to have sex once a week.
Kerner adds that couples should focus on what keeps both partners happy. This is because if you think too much about frequency, couples can forget about the quality of love, a more important aspect of a couple’s sex life.
The first step to achieving a mutually satisfying sex life is to talk about your desires with your partner.
Good communication is an important key in understanding each other about what may be missing in a couple’s relationship; about the frequency of sex or even if you want to experiment in bed.
It is important to remember that frequent sex is not the only indicator of satisfaction in a marriage or long-term relationship. A relationship can become sexual and satisfying through flirtation or romantic cues, not just penetrative sex.
So, as long as the couple’s relationship remains happy in their marital relationship, there is no need to stress about the frequency of making love, whether daily or once a month.
