The experiment was a success.
Sometimes directors deliberately recruit non-professional actors in their films. The most amazing thing is that the audience does not even notice this. This suggests that the casting was successful.
Few people know that professional actors were not filmed in the Soviet film hit Flight 222. Directed by Sergei Mikaelyan, by this time he had already shot several successful films: “In love of his own free will”, “Widows”, “Award”. Famous Soviet actors played in the tapes. But for the film “Flight 222” the director decided to recruit people from the street.
Mikaelian wanted everything on screen to look as realistic as possible. He recruited accountants, engineers and ordinary workers who had never dreamed of acting in films before. However, there were exceptions. The director invited Latvian actors to play the roles of Americans. But the main part of the performers consisted of ordinary people.
It was not easy for Mikaelyan to work with non-professionals, because they had to be taught acting right in the process. But this experiment was a success, and the film entered the top three most popular films of 1986.
