The Racism scandal in the Champions League caused a wave of outrage on the internet.
An unpleasant incident occurred in the game between Paris Saint-Germain and Istanbul Basaksehir. In a confusing situation, the Romanian referee Ovidiu Hategan showed the Istanbul assistant coach Pierre Achille Webó the red card.
The fourth official Sebastian Coltescu is said to have referred to Webó as “Negro”. It could also have been “negru”, which is the Romanian word for black.
After the game, numerous soccer stars spoke out on the incident on social media.
PSG star Neymar posted a picture on Instagram where he held up his fist as a sign of solidarity. The striker, even on the pitch at this scene, wrote: “Black lives matter.”
Kylian Mbappé also commented and wrote on Twitter: “Say no to Racism”.
Demba Ba confronts the referee
In addition, a video of the game in Paris spreads on the Internet. On it you can see Demba Ba confronting the fourth official on the sidelines. The ex-Hoffenheimer sat on the bench with Basaksehir and saw the incident immediately.
“You never say: ‘That white player’. Instead, you say: ‘That player’. So why do you say, ‘That black player?’ To a black man,” the striker asked the official angrily.
