Olympic winners from the Tokyo Games in the Czech team can look forward to a reward of 2.4 million Czech crowns, which is 94,214 euros. The Czech National Sports Agency (NSA), which approves the remuneration of Czech athletes, informed about it in a press release.

According to the NSA, silver Czechs in Tokyo will receive CZK 1.8 million, or EUR 70,658, and bronze Czechs will receive CZK 1.2 million, or EUR 47,105. The rewards for the Czechs are the same as at the other winter Olympic Games in Pyongyang in 2018.

At the time of the approval of the rewards for the 2020 Olympics, Czech athletes already had eight medals in their accounts, four of which were gold. “I am convinced that athletes deserve their rewards to the last crown. The promotion of our country around the world, which our Olympic medalists have earned, has incalculable value for the Czech Republic,” said NSA President Filip Neusser.

The NSA has also approved rewards for multi-member teams as well as medalists from the Tokyo Paralympic Games two weeks after the Olympics. For example, the golden Czech tennis dancers Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková will share CZK 3.18 million, or 124,833 euros. Rewards are prepared for the Paralympians in the same amount as for the Olympians. “It’s our message to the sports environment that we treat all athletes equally,” said NSA Vice President Markéta Kabourková.

Compared to the Czechs, the Slovak prizes for medals at the 2020 Olympics are slightly lower. Anton Siekel, President of the Slovak Olympic and Sports Committee (SOŠV), informed before the start of the Olympics that the athlete will receive a reward of 50,000 euros for a gold medal, 40,000 euros for silver and 30,000 euros for bronze. “The remuneration of our medalists has not changed since the previous Olympics. This time, the state also wants to participate in the co-financing, but we are ready to pay the athletes the commitments anyway,” said Anton Siekel on sport24.pluska.sk.

The same source also informed that Singapore’s athletes can look forward to the highest rewards for a gold medal, up to 849,902.53 euros. Of the sports-developed countries, Italians value gold the most (140,350.88 euros). The Russians will receive EUR 50,682.26 for the victories at the Olympics and the Americans will receive EUR 31,851.85. A special category is the British, Norwegians and Swedes, who do not guarantee any prizes to their Olympic winners.
