The third generation Dacia Duster has officially debuted in Romania and will come from 2024. The new SUV is built on a new platform and boasts several firsts and an affordable price.
The much-anticipated new generation has been officially presented, going on sale next year.
“The new Dacia Duster measures 4.34 meters in length, 1.81 meters in length and is 1.66 meters tall. Depending on the configuration – 4×2 or 4×4 – the car has 209 mm ground clearance, respectively 217 mm, for the all-wheel drive version. The third generation is now built on the CMF-B platform and we expect it to offer a more enjoyable driving experience than its predecessors,” announced ProMotor.
The SUV represents two-thirds of Mioveni’s total production and will also have a hybrid version. The factory produces 200,000 Duster cars/year. Duster 3 will not have diesel versions, but it will have a hybrid variant, being the second Dacia model, after the Jogger, with such an engine.
Renault officials said the Duster 3 will have better off-road capabilities and a more spacious interior. As with the Jogger and Duster, Dacia will insist on how to use the car for outings in nature (transporting tents, bicycles, skis). It is expected that changes in Duster 3 will be more numerous than in the recent “change of generation”, six years ago.
The current Duster still has a price starting at 17,900 euros which means that the Duster 3 will cost more than 18,000 euros for sure.
“We were 25% cheaper than the competition in 2019, and in 2022, 15% cheaper. Now we estimate that we are somewhere around 12 – 13%. So between 10 and 15% cheaper than key competitors, a position we can control and will continue to monitor. We have new products next year, we will have the new Duster, for example, and the positioning of the new Duster will be key, it is a major product for us,” said Xavier Martinet, vice president of the Renault brand.
Applying these percentages to a 21,500 euro car, with 10% we get a price of 19,350 euros, and with a 15% discount we reach 18,275 euros. That’s roughly the range that the Duster 3 will be positioned in, and we’re likely to see a price somewhere in the middle of that range, given that the car comes with a new platform, the CMF-B, with technologies that haven’t been available on the this model, with hybrid engines and 4×4 options.
