How much they cost? SSC sells glasses to see the total solar eclipse without risk

To avoid causing severe damage to eyesight, the capital agency designed lenses that are already on sale

Next Monday, April 8, Mexico will witness one of the most anticipated astronomical phenomena of the decade, as a total solar eclipse will occur that will darken much of the country. It should be noted that it was in 1991 when an incident of this event occurred, which would explain the reason why there is a lot of emotion among the population; However, admiring it directly is not recommended, as there may be significant risks involved. Do you need special glasses? The answer is yes.

Recently, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) announced that, to view the eclipse safely, glasses certified with the ISO 12312-2 standard are needed, so it is ruled out that another lens is functional for this case.

“These strategies are called indirect methods, but if we want to look up and observe the eclipse we must always do so with the appropriate filters,” explained ophthalmologist David Lozano.

Although it has been spread on social networks that using x-rays, negatives, homemade filters or smoked glass can be helpful for this type of events, the reality is that they would be of no use and, if we resort to them, the only thing we would be achieving is permanently damage eyesight.

Taking into account that observing the eclipse will be one of the events that mark the entire 2024, the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City, announced that lenses whose lenses are special were designed to be able to enjoy the eclipse of sun safely. In addition to announcing such important news, the agency headed by Pablo Vázquez Camacho emphasized that they have them for sale for a value of less than 100 Mexican pesos.

With a video published on social networks, the Capital Police invited all citizens to come and get a copy of these special glasses whose unit value is 88 pesos. At the moment, it is unknown how many pieces will be for sale, so it is recommended to go to the facilities of the Secretariat of Citizen Security as soon as possible to be part of this phenomenon that will not happen for another 300 years, at least in the country.

“Do you want to see the #Eclipse on April 8 without any risk to your eyes? At the #SSC you can purchase, for $88, @HazmevalerP brand glasses that meet the necessary safety standards,” the agency highlighted.

To be able to purchase these special glasses, just go to the SSC facilities located at 136 Liverpool Street, located in the Juárez neighborhood of the Cuauhtémoc mayor’s office. Unlike other countries in Latin America, Mexico is one of the privileged countries to be able to see the total solar eclipse. Specifically, it will be in the city of Mazatlán where it will be observed 100 percent, while in other places it will be seen partially. In the case of the Mexican capital, which is where the Secretariat of Citizen Security has put special lenses on sale, it was reported that it will be seen at 75 percent when it is at its maximum.

The eclipse will begin at 9:51 a.m. and between 11:07 a.m. and 11:11 a.m. the country will completely darken. In the Mexican capital, it has been emphasized that the maximum point will be at 12:14 p.m., concluding the natural phenomenon at 1:38 p.m.
