Jakarta –
Social media was enlivened with the topic that 30 year olds must have a savings of IDR 1 billion. If the workers had that target, how much salary should they have to achieve that target?
A financial planner from Finansia Consulting Eko Endarto believes that having a savings of IDR 1 billion at the age of 30 is possible. For Eko, it is not the type of profession or income, but rather the amount of money that can be saved in a year.
“It means that if he is 30 years old, if he wants Rp. 1 billion, per year, he must get Rp. 100 million,” said Eko detik.comMonday (25/7/2022).

This means, if you only rely on savings, a minimum of IDR 8.3 million is needed for one month. With a note, this amount has not been reduced by other needs, aka net savings.
So, what about millennials and Gen Z who have the minimum wage? Eko said that people who earn the minimum wage can still have Rp 1 billion at the age of 30, but they cannot rely on savings alone.
“If you don’t do anything with the money, a salary of Rp 5 million can be invested. Yes, at least 30-50% a year, it’s still possible. That’s the conditions for the salary to be okay,” he added.
However, the community certainly has other obligations that must be paid. So, to reach Rp 1 billion at the age of 30, it is necessary to do business or invest. From Eko’s calculations, at least a return of 3 times the total salary of Rp. 5 million is needed to achieve this target.
According to Eko, millennials with UMR salaries cannot only rely on their monthly income.
“It’s a bit difficult if you don’t have a business. Because the business grows faster than the Rp 5 million salary continues. The solution is business and investment, or hoping to get an inheritance,” he said with a chuckle.
For example, people can choose a crypto market with a large potential return. But Eko reminded that the crypto market also has high volatility and risk, so it is advisable to be more selective.
