Tourists and day visitors brought almost 28 million euros to Alzey in 2023. The city reports this on its website, referring to figures from the “German Economic Institute for Tourism” (dwif).
In total, 700,000 day trips and around 82,000 overnight stays were registered in Alzey last year. This corresponds to a total turnover of 27.7 million euros. The hospitality industry benefited the most with a share of 13.1 million euros. Retail followed with 9.3 million euros, while the service sector generated 5.3 million euros from tourists.
The city treasury also benefits
Mayor Steffen Jung (SPD) explains: “Tourism is an indispensable economic factor for Alzey. It creates jobs, generates tax revenue and promotes regional development. The numbers speak for themselves.” As figures from the “dwif” show, in 2023 alone, 2.6 million euros flowed into the city’s coffers from the tourism sector in the form of value added tax and income tax.
The city of Alzey says that these results are a confirmation of its previous tourism strategy and an “incentive” to further intensify efforts in this area. Future initiatives will aim to further increase Alzey’s attractiveness as a travel destination and continue the positive economic development.
