Activision Blizzard and Electronic Arts have shared information on how much money they make on microtransaction games. Spoiler: a lot!
Activision Blizzard for the first quarter of 2020 earned $ 956,000,000 – this is $ 162,000,000 (+ 20%) more than the same period last year.
In particular, Activision reported that microtransaction revenue from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for the quarter “more than doubled” compared to microtransaction revenue in Black Ops 4.
Activision Blizzard also said that it made a lot of money on microtransactions of the 5th season of the Call of Duty: Mobile mobile project.
The company, in addition, receives income from microtransactions from its other games, including World of Warcraft, Overwatch, and, of course, from numerous mobile games from its subsidiary King (for example, Candy Crush).
As for Electronic Arts, the company earned $ 789,000,000 in in-game microtransactions for the first fiscal quarter of 2020, which is less than ($ 845,000,000) for the same period last year thanks to the launch of Apex Legends.
