How much is this €0.05 coin with the coliseum worth? “Crazy”

Dear numismatic friends, welcome back. Today we are going to analyze a coin that, until now, we had never taken into consideration: the 5 cents. This coin, belonging to the series of those of copperit is often snubbed compared to those made in Nordic gold, such as those from 10 to 50 cents. Despite its face value is ridiculoushowever, there are some specimens that hide an important value; let’s see what it is.

5 cents Italy

The representation present in this coin, more or less, we should all know. This is the Flavian amphitheater, better known as Colosseum which the emperor Vespasian began building around 75 AD Let us therefore analyze other details present on the obverse of the coin; immediately above, on the left, is the letter R to indicate the Mint of Rome. Slightly further down, then, on the right, we find the symbol with the letters R and I superimposedwhat they mean “RefItalian public”. In the centre, below the coliseum, are the thousandth of minting and the initials of the author Ettore Lorenzo Frapiccini which form with the initials, the nice acronym ELF. Finally, all around the representation and its details, as in every coin, it is found the frame of stars indicating the states of the European Union.

The back of the coin, on the other hand, features a large portion the number 5 with the inscription EURO CENT which indicates its nominal value; next door, then, is the world and in the background 6 lines delimited by two stars each; again symbolizing the states of the Union.

Although, as we said before, this coin is one of the most unwanted, its value can reach decent prices. In addition to the possibility of finding some coinage errors that make it a highly coveted collector’s item, there is one year, in particular, considered uncommon. For this reason, probably due to the limited circulation, the coin belongs to the year 2003 has a value of 15€; equal to 30 times its initial value.
