800 silver is so called from the pure silver content it contains, which is equal to 800 out of 1000, so the other 200 are represented by copper, in general. This helps make the metal more manageable and workable. 800 silver is mainly used for everyday objects made with this metal alloy, usually not in jewelry (where silver is preferred sterlingthat is the one with a greater purity, equal to 92.5%, called precisely 925) but for the creation of jewelry, cutlery, candelabra, ornaments and similar objects.
