The Mexican peso ranked third among the most fragile emerging market currencies against the dollar

Given the fall in global markets and the increase in fears about the economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, the dollar gained ground against the peso.
At its interbank exchange rate, the dollar closed at $ 24.7380 managed to depreciate a 1.57%., one. 38 cents compared to the close on Thursday according to data from Banco de México.
At the bank windows the dollar was sold for $ 25.14 pesos in Citibanamex, in BBVA $ 25.15, in Banorte $ 25.35 and Scotiabank in $ 25.70 pesos per unit.
During the week, the dollar was exposed to volatility as news about the price of oil was confirmed and amid the publication of the worst employment data in a decade in the United States.
The Mexican currency recorded a depreciation of one 5.71 percent in the week. During March the Mexican currency registered its worst month since 1994.
The Mexican peso was the currency that held third position among the worst performers behind the South African rand and the Hungarian forint.

This Friday the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) published its latest report on the Consumer Confidence Indicator for the month of March, which registered its lowest level since November 2018.
The exchange rate also reacted to information released by the United States Department of Labor, where it recognized that 701,000 jobs were lost due to the ravages of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
Financial markets also reacted to the increase in COVID-19 cases that exceeded one million worldwide and in Mexico, figures from the Ministry of Health show that the number of cases reached 1,688 cases and 60 deaths.
