The historic Italian currency is immediately recognizable for the very high number of specimens made in almost 2 centuries of “life”: the lira in fact it is not just the currency post World War II, widespread in numerous issues that have become iconic, but can boast a much older cultural and economic heritage. Issues such as the 5 lire Delfino are by right one of the most widespread and recognizable ones.
New / old issues
Specifically, this is the second 5 lire issue of the Italian republic, which has begun to develop new issues in practice since the proclamation of the new type of state (after the referendum del 1946. The first of the Republic is in fact the 5 lire Uvabuilt from 1946 until 1950. The year after Uva it was replaced by the Delfino, an issue that was in fact minted for another 50 years.
How much are the 5 lire with the dolphin worth? Here is the answer. “Crazy”
It is so nicknamed because of the marine mammal it heads on straight ahead of these coins, even more than fairly popular among collectors or simply “forgotten” in old furniture or clothes. Made in Italma, a metal alloy very common at the time, in addition to the Dolphin also depicts a rudder, an indispensable tool for navigation on the other side. The representations are signed Giuseppe Romagnoli, historical engraver and medalist.
The value is very varied, as for all monetary issues: these are coins that are normally worth a few euros even if in excellent condition. The issues of 1956 stand out among the exceptions, the year in which less than half a million were minted (a trifle, given the previous and subsequent values). This is worth a 1956 coin from 50 euros (good condition) to 3500 euros (condition Brilliant Uncirculatedthe best possible).
Interesting, even if less “moneyed”, are those of 1969 which present the first “1” upside down in the year of minting, due to a minting error. These issues can be worth from 10 euros (good conditions) up to 100 euro (conditions Brilliant Uncirculated) during the sale phase.
