There are increasing indications that Ridouan T. ordered the murder of Peter R. de Vries from the highest-security prison in the Netherlands. Exactly one year after the death of the crime journalist, it is a sad and, above all, painful conclusion.
The fact that the most notorious criminal in the Netherlands could be cut off from the outside world appears to be an illusion. Less than a year after Ridouan T. was imprisoned in what should have been a closed bastion, he was NRC able to send a message.
This revelation comes just before the Amsterdam court reopens the investigation into the attack on De Vries on 11 July. A new witness has come forward and states that T. ordered the murder at the end of April 2021.
The witness with the fictitious name ‘Eddy’ also explains about the possible involvement of Krystian M. The 27-year-old Pole is arrested at the beginning of July and his phone is confiscated during a search.
Messages on his phone indicate that he was also involved in plans to assault T.’s ex-brother-in-law. A salient detail is that the Public Prosecution Service (OM) thinks that this order comes from the Extra Secure Institution (EBI) in Vught.
Mafia boss Imperiale is the recipient of the message
The suspicion that Ridouan T. could communicate from prison stems from a message sent in November 2020. According to NRC the police conclude a month later that it comes from T. and is intended for mafia boss Raffaele Imperiale.
The message is one of many messages that have ended up in the hands of the judiciary thanks to the Sky ECC hack. The provider of encrypted communication is very popular among criminals. Although most messages will not be deciphered until 2021, this specific message ends up with the Dutch police with the help of the FBI. How T. was able to send the message is still unclear.
If the police receive more messages from Sky in the course of 2021, it will become clear that people around Ridouan T. want to get in touch with him as soon as possible. From conversations that T.’s relatives had with PGP telephones, it can be deduced that they want to use Inez Weski for this.
It is suggested that the lawyer smuggle a USB stick into the EBI. Evidence for this is lacking and Weski emphatically denies this. Reports also show that the people around Ridouan are dissatisfied because of the lawyer’s lack of cooperation. “New lawyer“, reads a message. And it is coming.

Despite everything, Youssef T. gains access to EBI
Criminal lawyer Youssef T. reports to the EBI in December and says he wants to assist his cousin. Because an investigation into possible misuse of his secret telephone number is ongoing, Youssef is still refused at that time.
There are no concrete indications that the telephone, which can be used to communicate confidentially, has been used against the rules. Youssef will therefore be allowed to enter the EBI in March 2021.
Shortly after his entrance, the police read a message from Jaouad F., the son of Ridouan’s sister. “Brother, asked a relative. He is a lawyer,” said F. The Public Prosecution Service has already started an investigation into Ridouan’s possibilities to communicate with the outside world. Justice has therefore had information for some time that plans are being prepared to free him.
In any case, according to the Public Prosecution Service, it is not concrete enough to deny Youssef access. When De Vries is shot in the Lange Leidsedwarsstraat in Amsterdam on 6 July, Ridouan and Youssef spent many dozens of contact hours by phone and continued to visit.
Attack on De Vries as a catalyst for research
The investigation becomes really concrete shortly after the attack on De Vries. A week after the death of the crime journalist, an investigating judge gives permission to wiretap Youssef and Ridouan. Not much later, even images may be taken. The ultimate suspicion is that Youssef is the conduit to the outside world.
There is no message in which Ridouan writes that De Vries must be murdered, but the suspicion of his involvement has become stronger. That has everything to do with a new witness, who is called Eddy for security reasons.
Mid-October Eddy pulls up a local police officer and says he has knowledge about the murder of De Vries. The statements were only released recently, as his protection had to be completed first.
In his first interrogation at a police station in The Hague, Eddy tells about Krystian M., whom he considers a friend. He says that 27-year-old M. has been looking for someone to shoot a journalist from April 2021.
The reason would be De Vries’ collaboration with star witness Nabil B., according to Eddy. First they had shot the brother of the key witness and now it was the turn of the crime reporter, the witness continues.
Is M. Ridouan linked to the murder of de Vries?
Suspect Krystian M. may be a link between Ridouan T. and the murder of De Vries. In the investigation into the murder of De Vries (the confidant of the crown witness), M. is seen as the person who maintained telephone contact with the executors on the day of the attack.
In shocking reports, he would have informed the alleged gunman Delano G. and driver and ‘spotter’ Kamil E. that De Vries had to be shot anyway.
The Pole would be called in more often for violent jobs, such as the beating of Ridouan’s former brother-in-law. The order for this comes from the aforementioned Jaouad F. This can be deduced from messages found on M.’s phone.
The conviction of the judiciary that Ridouan ordered the assault from the EBI is striking. According to the Public Prosecution Service, Youssef passed on the order to F. The idea that the order for the murder of De Vries followed the same line of communication is certainly conceivable.
